INITIATIVES

Siksa Sudhara is pushing boundaries to implement innovative improvements and cultivate trusted partnerships by networking and collaborating with other NGOs/INGOs already working in educational environments.

2. FAMILY GROWTH AND SUPPORT
Offer conferences and counseling to parents and guardians that address issues relating to the best parenting techniques and how to sustain an environment of growth and support for children.

3. EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS
Obtain published, modern educational materials that can be tailored for Nepali classrooms. Produce custom materials that support and heighten effective teaching and learning.

4. LANGUAGE AND PHONICS
Promote language and phonics education to improve and enhance students' reading comprehension and communication skills, in both native and English languages.

5. CLIMATE CHANGE AWARENESS
Heighten awareness of the global climate change crisis to inspire young people to pursue stewardship in their homes and communities and introduce them to related career path options.

6. STUDENT WELLBEING
Acquire and develop indoor and outdoor activities that stimulate imagination and aid in the development of self-awareness and agency.

7. CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT
Share effective strategies that address overall educational experiences including conflict resolution and mediation techniques. Offer tools that help create a more positive, harmonious, conducive learning environment.

8. VOLUNTEER TEACHING & TUTORING PROGRAM

9. ADMINISTRATIVE GUIDANCE
Provide counseling from local leaders to school principals and administrators, offering feedback and suggestions to improve, attain and sustain overall administrative excellence.
CONFERENCES AND TRAINING

When the demands of managing a school start to overwhelm an administration, usually the first discretionary activities to be cut are teacher training sessions and conferences for professional and personal growth. Siskasudhara.com knows that training is vital and necessary, and should be offered on a regular basis.

Our goal is to create practical and encouraging training modules and to make them easily accessible, both live and online. This will be very helpful to schools that simply don’t have the resources to present them.

Our team has already developed programs for teaching staff and parents alike, covering topics such as:

  • Best Teaching Practices
  • The Qualities of a Great Teacher
  • Authoritative Parenting in Today’s Society
  • Character Development in the Classroom
  • The Parent/Teacher Relationship
  • Classroom Management
  • Supplemental Training in All Basic Education Curriculum

INSTRUCTIONAL ENGLISH RESOURCES

We all know that English (or any language) is absorbed and learned more easily when taught at an early age. When it’s instructed improperly, incorrect speaking habits become harder to break as we get older.

Siksasudhara.com is currently developing resources that will greatly help the non-native English-speaking teacher to teach pronunciation correctly, and with more focus on conversational exercises which are lacking in current language curriculums. As children are learning, these resources will allow teachers to learn and improve as well.

We anticipate introducing several of the new resources in early 2025.

INTERNATIONAL VOLUNTEER PROGRAM

International volunteers are known to bring a special energy into a classroom, and their presence also allows students and teaching staff the opportunity to gain different cultural perspectives.

But volunteers in Kathmandu basic schools are not commonplace. It is our belief that a well-organized Volunteer Program will add greatly to the proper teaching of English and will enhance local teaching programs in general.

We are currently developing a Volunteer Program with plans to begin advertising it to potential volunteers as soon as possible.
SUPPORT RURAL SCHOOLS

As founder Mr. Jeff has witnessed firsthand, rural schools in Nepal struggle to survive.

A prime example is the Sita Dharma Basic School in Nuwakot, founded by a locally born family whose desire was to provide free basic education to the most underprivileged children of the area. The family purchased land and built the school 16 years ago, and have been supporting it fully ever since.

However, it’s just enough to keep the school open. So much is lacking in order to provide a well-rounded education for the PreK through 8th grade classes. Some of the pressing items include:

  • Facilities need renovation and earlier construction of additional classrooms has not been completed
  • There is no playground equipment
  • Better quality textbooks and teaching aids are desperately needed
  • Local teachers have not received a cost-of-living raise for several years
  • No access to teacher training
  • No student computers - computer science is taught by textbook only
  • No computer lab, science lab, or library.

Bringing the Sita Dharma story to a global audience is an important goal for SiksaSudhara.com. Our hope is to raise awareness and support for converting this school into a solid learning institution and to create a template for other rural schools to follow.
